Oracle Digital Assistant for All Oracle Fusion Apps

All of the Oracle Fusion Apps come with Oracle Digital Assistant (ODA), so any customer can very easily enable the service and make use of the many pre built skills.

There are Skills for core HCM, Recruiting, Approvals, Procurement, Projects and many more (including on-prem apps as Peoplesoft).

Check here for the full coverage.

While these Skills are ready to be used in Production (with minor configurations), the real value they provide is of establishing a solid base on top of which we can customize and extend.

How to start

Best way to understand the necessary steps in order to configure and activate your ODA instance for Fusion is, surprise surprise, by reading the documentation 🙂 There is a good tutorial here.

I will cover those steps another time, but for now, lets look to available capabilities.

Where to find it?

The default icon is located on the bottom-right and its quite visible (red over green background).

Once you open it, you get a greeting.

HCM Skill

The HCM Skill has several Intents like Absences, Directory, Benefits, Payroll, Onboarding, Manager Self Service, etc.

Below an interaction with the directory, where the user asks for the phone number of an employee. It could ask for many other things like department, manager, email etc.

Payroll

The Payroll payslip Intent is quite simple, but it provides an answer for a common question.

Approvals Skill

Below an example of the Approvals Skill. This user had nothing to approve, but it does give the idea of what kind of tasks one can do within this context.

Expenses Skill

You can say Create an Expense Report to invoke an intent from the Expenses Skill.

In this case I will use text only to enter all the details.

You are prompted for the Country.

If you look closely you see that the NLP identified July 23rd, even tough I said last friday, which is correct at the time I am writing this!

Now for something more interesting. The receipt automatic recognition.

Receipt Automatic Recognition

I have a Uber Eats receipt that I will upload and hope that Fusion is able to extract all the information from it.

So far so good, it accepts the receipt and it asks for the Country.

As it did not recognized the expense type, we are prompted for it.

But it did extract the total amount and the name of the Merchant. This was an order for a burger from a restaurant called The Burger Mafia.

Conclusion

All of this is out-of-the-box. Every fusion enviroment comes attached with and ODA instance. That means that anyone can have this up and running in no time.

Obviously the most powerful part is that these skills provide a solid base on top of which we can customize and extend to enrich the capabilities.
